Many sports stadia are set in residential areas and turn their backs to the local community but this is not the case here. The light green diaphanous rainscreen cladding provides an elegant foil to the surrounding massive redbrick Victorian villas.
The five-storey building forms a crescent on plan facing down the line of play. In cross section it leans out towards the cricket ground and this achieves two objectives – more floor space at the upper levels and some mitigation of solar gain on the south-facing facade.
