Elegant, reusable, durable

Haus D // 6, Germany

Aretz Dürr Architektur have won a long list of architectural awards including ‘House of the Year’ 2020 for their low-cost, sustainably designed, single storey family house. Sitting lightly within its surrounding landscape, the house provides a stripped down, comfortable living space.

Based on a typical one-room deep longhouse design with the main rooms that take up its entire width, the house in the Oberberg region of Germany is built on a gentle slope on a North, South axis.

A large full height living area dominates the centre of the building with the remaining living spaces on the southern end and garage and storage rooms to the North. An elevated, translucent galvanized steel walkway connects the two independent units leading to a common gallery. A slimline primary galvanized steel frame infilled with timber panels and beams forms the main structure founded on a concrete plinth.Haus D6 in Germany

The self-finished interior, including a polished concrete floor, provides a blank canvas that its occupants can build upon. The roofline for the building is extended to form an overhang that provides shade during the summer and solar gain in the winter.
