Going green on campus

Riedberg Campus, University of Frankfurt

The new Research Greenhouse at the University of Frankfurt is used for the cultivation, care and preservation of plants and will be used for teaching and research. The new structure has been designed to adapt to its sloping topography.

In order to efficiently utilise the site and maximise penetration of light, three staggered arcuate halls form the main geometry of the galvanized steel and glass structure. With heights varying from 5 to 10.5 m and spans of 9 to 11.5 m each greenhouse is designed to grow plants from a variety of climatic regions that relate to individual fields of research within the Life Sciences department of the university. Careful consideration had to be given to the design and material choice in order to meet the requirements of the University.
