By utilising an existing sloping terrace, Építész Stúdió succeeded in reducing the visible size of the new sports hall at Saint Margaret High School in Budapest.
The new sports hall sits within the historic gardens of the existing neo-baroque school building in central Budapest. It provides multi-purpose sports facilities and seating for 450 spectators.
An easily accessible additional playing field has been created on the roof of the new building with an entrance at ground level from a courtyard behind the school. The mass of the building is softened by the introduction of a clever yet simple external feature.

Slender hot dip galvanized vertical tubes have been used to create an external envelope to the building, providing a transparent filigree structure to the building’s external concrete façade whilst also creating a innovative ball catching fence for the playing field.
