The location for the new lakeside platform takes advantage of a very prominent position in Allensbach. Situated within a public park, it offers a fantastic panoramic view of the town, the island of Reichenau, as well as the Swiss Alps. The location is also renowned for wonderful sunsets over the lake.
The design concept for the formulation of a future-oriented floating stage draws on an urban building block that blends harmoniously into the context of the park and allows visitors to view the lake in a natural way. Due to its architectural language and formulation, the simple structure also presents itself as a new, multipurpose building block that can be used by citizens and visitors all year round. The lakeside stage will be used as an ideal setting for an annual two concert series “Umsonst und Draußen” and “Jazz am See”.
The stage forms a light, filigree structure ‘a pergola in the park’. It’s concept was not to dominate the site, but consciously subordinate itself to the landscape. A minimal light structure made of painted galvanized steel sections and glass was the end result. In the event of a concert, mobile diffuse sliding elements delimit the stage area. For other uses, these can be concertinaed together, so that an open, versatile platform can be created.
The chosen location and the simple design allow the floating stage to be used in a variety of ways outside of the concert season. Alternative uses include: flea markets, children’s club events, local church events and as a local meeting point for surfers and kiteboarders.
